Camila Cabello's awkward joke falls on 'The Voice': 'This crowd hates me'

Camila Cabello is doing a good job. Sound‘s new coach manages arguably the strongest team this season. But he still works on his comic timing, especially when it comes to sparring with Blake Shelton, as did former coaches Adam Levine or Kelly Clarkson. This led to an awkward – (though unintentionally) entertaining – moment during Monday’s Battle Tours, where Camila proved she wasn’t the comedy GOAT.

Blake’s contestants Kate Kalvach and Madison Hughes just performed, and in the first episode of Season 22, Blake talked about bringing in a furry, hoofed team mascot, a real goat, to lure Kate into his team. (Because Blake supposedly Soundget it?) Blake admitted that the “goat distraction” that night prevented Kate from realizing how talented she was, at which point Camila randomly interrupted, “I actually brought my goat in today. take it out!”

But there were no goats… and a long, writhing silence ensued. On a heavily edited show, when the producers often add incessant laughter and audience cries, this pause was super uncomfortable—for Camila, at least. “This crowd hates me,” she chuckled contemptuously, her face as red as her dress and hydraulic chair.

“It’s on fire, folks,” John Legend said.

“Can you guys please laugh at one of your jokes?” Blake warned the audience. “Just a from them?”

But when it comes to coaching, Camila is seriously dead and seriously burned out. During Monday night’s only Battle, he made the right decision by advancing one of the season’s most interesting performers to the Knockout Tours. The same decision-making immortality It is definitely practiced by other coaches this evening. So Camila could be the one with the last laugh this season.

Here’s what happened during Monday’s Battle Rounds:

GWEN TEAM: Kique vs. Tanner Howe, “Don’t You (Forget Me)”

Gwen Stefani warned Kique and Tanner during rehearsals, “I chose a song I like, so you better not mess it up”. I’m not sure if they fully heed his warning; Gwen and team counselor Sean Paul were put off by the liberties both singers took to the tune of this “perfect song.” When Kique and Tanner took the stage, they were a little closer to the stage. Breakfast Club original, both those super loud “hey!” that had fooled them at rehearsal. But the result was still somewhat cheesy, like a John Hughes themed dinner theater revue. Gwen eventually went with 18-year-old “diamond in the brute” Kique, but suffice it to say, Kique is not Jim Kerr. I actually request It’s like forgetting this particular War. Everyone should listen to Simple Minds’ excellent new album direction of the heartcame out last week instead of watching it.

WINNER: Kique

TEAM BLAKE: Hillary Torchiana vs. Kevin Hawkins”Preach”

How shady Blake’s giving these singers a John Legend ballad – when, as Blake puts it, John is always “weird when someone does his song.” But John was actually very happy with this Battle, especially Kevin’s performance, because he wanted Kevin for his team from the beginning. (Gwen blocked John during Kevin’s Blind Audition causing him to complain, “A piano teacher singing Stevie Wonder and I don’t stand a chance? I wish I could study with you, Kevin!”) John even gave it that. The “Preacher” performance received a standing ovation, “I popular IT!” Hillary held back with a solid performance – “These guys did an incredible job and stuck to the plan and represented the song,” Blake said – but Kevin, one of Season 22’s most dynamite entertainers, threw Hillary off the stage. You knew you had a big duty to .” Blake admitted as he made his obvious decision. Unfortunately, John didn’t get a chance to use his Steal; maybe he could steal Kevin on the Knockout Rounds.

WINNER: Kevin Hawkins

TEAM CAMILA: Sasha Hurtado vs. Devix, “Electric Feel”

Camila called it the “left-of-center indie duo,” and I appreciated MGMT’s designation of mid-range indie-sleaze classics. They looked gorgeous together in a down-tempo, traditional arrangement – John has declared it his favorite Battle of the night so far – and technically, Sasha displayed more range and dynamics. But there was Devix lots unique and damn sexy sound, so it stood out clearly. Devix gave me a Miguel/Maxwell vibe the moment he started filing, causing Camila and John to mutter and even grunt in agreement. Camila told Devix: “You have a strong vision of who wants to be an artist. … it feels like this could be your song.” Gwen actually got very angry with Devix, “I didn’t even know someone could sing so beautifully!” So I’m not surprised that Camila is holding Devix, but I’m a bit surprised that Gwen spontaneously steals Sasha. “It was just too good. … You need some love to push you in the right direction,” Gwen explained to him.

WINNER: Devix / STEAL: Sasha Hurtado moves to Team Gwen

TEAM LEGEND: Kim Cruse vs. David Andrew, “Heartbreak Anniversary”

I loved David’s cool cat vibe and style in this Grammys Giveon duet, but as John complains, David “delivered what he had to deliver” and was “perfect” but “his problem was going up against Kim.” Declared as possibly the best vocalist of Season 22 by the four coaches, Kim enraged even Camila, “This huge dragon is coming out of you. … It was just ingenious. You have one of the best voices I’ve ever heard.” Blake told Kim, “You’re an outstanding vocalist. We don’t see too many artists on this stage who can do anything you can.” It’s totally understandable why John chose Kim, of course, but David deserved another chance.Gwen fighting for David in Turn the Blind looked very impressed with the stylish and super-flying David, so she didn’t even consider Playing on Sasha a few moments ago. I really wish he hadn’t used it. David could be a great addition to Team Gwen.

WINNER: Kim Cruse

TEAM BLAKE: Kate Kalvach vs. Madison Hughes, “Every Rose Has a Thorn”

Reedy-voiced Madison bit more into this Poison power ballad, and I totally dug her demeanor (“yes, it is” one-liner was a bit fierce). “I swear he has a little bit of Elvis in his voice,” Blake told Madison. But as with David Andrew, Madison had the sad disadvantage of going up against one of the season’s top singers. “There’s something really sweet [Kate’s] her voice and how connected she is,” Blake explained. As mentioned above, Blake actually recruited Kate with a goat mascot. had to double down and keep this GOAT on your team.

WINNER: Kate Kalvach

TEAM GWEN: Alyssa Witrado vs Ian Harrison, ‘Happy than ever’

Gwen had a soft spot for both of these contestants: Ian was the first team member of the season, and Alyssa auditioned for No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak.” And when this epic War began, Gwen’s decision was not an easy one. While Billie Eilish’s whispery, staccato vocal style was right in the wheelhouse of young Alyssa, Ian did a phenomenal job of embracing the song’s “quirkiness and eccentricity” and “let the drama and personality emerge.” All the coaches were particularly impressed with how Ian boosted his vocals, from a moment that Blake called the “shock factor” of this duet. Gwen told Ian, “Your voice for a man is my favorite type of voice.” said. But then Gwen made another last-minute impulse decision. “I’m telling you 10%, where I was leaning right now wasn’t what I thought I was going to do today,” she admitted. “I certainly didn’t know this was going to happen.” And so Gwen chose Alyssa over Ian. However, the episode had a happy ending when John stole Ian. And everyone was happier than ever… until the brutal cuts resumed during Tuesday’s Battle Rounds.
