The Democrats’ silence comes just a few years after the outspoken anger of the former President Trump administration’s strict immigration policies, including the “zero tolerance” policy for immigrants entering the United States illegally.
In 2018, Pelosi urged Trump to end his administration’s “inhuman, barbaric” policy of criminally prosecuting any adult who enters the United States illegally and leads to the detention of children separately from their parents.
“Stop this inhuman, barbaric policy, cancel your actions, take responsibility for it,” said Pelosi in San Diego after touring a detention facility. “It’s not about immigration. It’s about humanity. It’s about family. It’s about who we are as a country.”

Republicans, on the other hand, condemn the “shocking” death statistics for illegal immigrants and call Biden’s inaction a neglect of duty.
“As President Biden’s radical policies open our southern border for record numbers of illegal immigration, deadly fentanyl, terrorism suspects, and tragically record numbers of immigrant deaths, House Republicans are determined to secure our border by finishing the wall and ending the capture-and-let alone.” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., told Fox News Digital.
“The Biden administration has wrapped up a record-breaking year in securing the country’s borders with drugs, death, destruction and complete neglect of duty. The unprecedented number of immigrant deaths at the border is shocking,” House Homeland Security said. Ranking Member John Katko, RN.Y. added.

R-Ky., a spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, blamed Democrats for historic border crossings, citing multiple speeches by the senator on the subject.
“Law and order has been broken in our country over the past two years,” McConnell said in a September speech. “Public safety has eroded. Violent crimes such as murder and carjacking are breaking records. And our southern border has turned into a turnstile.” Said. “We’ve seen violence and chaos firsthand in Kentucky, especially in my hometown of Louisville. But we’re not alone. It’s a nationwide phenomenon under the auspices of Democrats.”
